John Michael Kinney: Analyzing cold water bodies to record the effects of climate change

Test the Waters

My project aims to address the issue of climate change and warming water temperatures that will undoubtedly affect the cold freshwater fish species of the North-East United States, specifically the native brook trout populations. I plan to design an instrument in the Nest Makerspace that will record changes in dissolved oxygen levels, water temperatures, PH, and pollution levels in a freshwater body consistently and, if possible, remotely. I will then use my data to raise awareness about climate change and hopefully end up with a device that could be mass-produced and used to monitor various bodies of freshwater.
