The 2025 OWHL Scholars Symposium will take place Friday, February 28th from 5-9pm in the Freeman Room. This year's theme is Inner Stories: Those We tell. Those we Live. Six students will present on their projects, described below.
Sonya Caro del Castillo | Gender Bias in Heart Health: A Call fro Equitable Care
This project delves into the pervasive isue of gender bias in cardiovascular healthcare, highlighting its profound impact on diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. By examining the disparities between cisgender men and women, it explores how systematic bias in clinical practices, research, and medical education perpetuates inequality. The project advocates for comprehensive reforms, emphasizing the need for inclusive research, gender sensitive medical training, and equitable treatment to ensure better heart health outcomes for all patients.

William Ge | The Sound of Revolution and a Revolution of Sound: Classical Contemporary Music
What is classical contemporary music? How is it intertwined with history? And why does any of this matter? This presentation will first examine the ecosystem of classical contemporary music on both macro and micro scales, considering compsers from the Cold War era, then tackle the existential issues of music. Discover the mathematical balance of Chen Yi's piano repertoire and Shostakovich's manic symphonies: grapple with these wordless stories.
Morgan Hsu | Tickling Our Neurons: Inspired by Comedy. Informed by Neuroscience
"Tickling Our Neurons" is a research project on the intersection of neuroscience and comedy and how they can impact mental health. It is a LibGuide on the OWHL website the includes information on the history and science of humor, insights from professional comedians, and other neuroscience and humor resources.
Katerina Kokkotos | Bridging the Echoes of Antiquity with the Modern: Digitally Reviving Ancient Greek at Phillips Academy
This project developed an interactive digital map of notable ancient Greek texts, making them accessible to diverse audiences. Tracing connections between various far-reaching and extensive borders of Greek influence illuminates a shared human experience across cultural and geographical boundaries. By integrating digital humanities tools, this project redefines engagement and learning. Through an innovative and user-focused design, the project hopes to spread more knowledge about ancient Greece, a place that has profoundly shaped our modern world.
